The Methodist church was founded in Hokes Bluff in 1875 in the Tatum School Building, which was located near the intersection of Smith Road and Alford Road. Out of this grew the Marvin Methodist Church located about three miles from the present site.
By 1887, a more central location in the village of Hokes Bluff was in order and land was deeded for the location by Mr. and Mrs. John H. Wisdom. The name of the church became White Springs Methodist Church. During the mid 1940’s the need for a larger facility was evident, but because of World War II, construction had to be delayed. A 4.5 acre lot was donated by W. L. Morris and construction began in June 1950 during the appointment of Rev. Alton Parris.
The building was completed nine months later and completely debt free on Easter Sunday 1954. The Educational Building was completed in 1956 and was designed to accommodate 350 in Sunday School. The Fellowship Hall was completed in October 1983. The family life center was added in 1990. The name of the church became Hokes Bluff First United Methodist Church.
